Radio Azattyk support groups addressed the Kyrgyz authorities

Radio Azattyk support groups addressed the Kyrgyz authorities, demanding to resume radio broadcasting. The group collected 4 thousand signatures.

On February 24, on the eve of the first round of the Parliamentary elections, Radio Azattyk ceased broadcasting on FM and Ultrashort waves under the order of the Republican Industrial Association “Radio Relay routes of TV and radio” (RPORMTR).

The RPORMTR gave justification to the order, saying that the equipment used by the company was outdated. Executive authorities explained the order differently, saying that they announced a tender to sell frequencies used by the Radio.

The tender, announced in hasty manner, was scheduled for 10 March. However itt was no held because one of two companies, applied for the auction, didn’t appear.
