Inetrnews-Kyrgyzstan called on the authorities to stop manipulating public consciousness

Internews-Kyrgyzstan made a statement on local electronic media coverage of the events happening in the south of Kyrgyzstan, raising concerns over the information blockade in recent weeks.

It’s worth mentioning that AKI-press information agency and Radio Azattyk were the only source of speedy information in the recent weeks. In connection with this, the Internews-Kyrgyzstan called on authorities to stop exerting pressure on media outlets and using airtime on the state-controlled TV channel excessively, as it is funded from taxpayers’ money.

“Kyrgyzstan people were unable to get authentic information about the events happening in other regions, because the official authorities intruded on activities of electronic media outlets. Because of no full and balanced information about the events happening in the south and some northern regions, there were a lot of rumors, manipulating public consciousness and destabilizing the situation,” the statement says.
