Ex-president’s wife accused media of media terrorism

Mairam Akayeva, ex-president’s wife, issued an open letter for the people of Kyrgyzstan. In the letter, she listed all Akayev’s achievements during his term in President’s office and noted that some media outlets systemically criticized him, his family and his associates. According to her, MSN newspaper, which was the most critical of the President and people close to him, made numerous baseless allegations and defamatory statements. “MSN newspaper was always too much concerned over “financial side” of our family. I can say for sure that I and Askar Akayevich were not granted President’s flat. We have our old flat and summer residence, which were given to him as a professor. During his President’s term, we hadn’t built any houses or summer residences. We have no villas, no mansions around the world, of which we were accused so many times. Askar Akayevich was always committed to the idea of building independent democratic state, so he contributed much of his energy, skills, intellect and experience to realizing this idea. He never valued material things and welfare. I say this with all my understanding,” she said in her statement.
