The Monitoring of Presidential elections coverage in the media has started in Kyrgyzstan

Internews and CIMERA in Kyrgyzstan have begun the international project to monitor how local media outlets cover the preparations for the Presidential elections, scheduled for 10 July this year. The project will be supported by the OSCE. According to the project coordinator, Kuban Mambetaliyev, the monitoring is primarily aimed at monitoring the work carried out by Kyrgyz electronic and print media outlets. A group of 30 observers, who were trained to implement the monitoring, will monitor governmental and non-governmental media outlets, operating in Osh, Zhalalabat, Batken and Kyzylkiya. The monitoring will cover 150 print and 34 electronic media outlets. The results will be input in the database and further lawyers will produce legal assessment of the results. By the end of the project, they will publish final analytic report based on the results. The Internews and CIMERA have carried out similar project during the previous Parliamentary elections and produced a report, doubting free and fair election. The report was used by a number of international institutions.
