Foreign Affairs Ministry of Kyrgyzstan stepped in to help Erkin Yakubzhanov, a reporter detained by Uzbek frontier guards

 

Foreign Affairs Department of Kyrgyzstan stepped in to help Erkin Yakubzhanov, a reporter detained by Uzbek frontier guards. Yakubzhanov, a student of Journalism Department at Osh State University, was arrested on July 18 at the Dustlik checkpoint. On July 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, requesting to make an objective investigation into the arrest of Erkin Yakubzhanov.

Kyrgyzstan Internal Affairs Ministry’s authorized person in South Region was charged to investigate circumstances of the incident.

Alisher Salahitdinov, Uzbekistan Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kyrgyzstan was invited to meet Taalaibek Kadyrov the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, who initiated the meeting between force structures  of both countries to discuss sensitive problems, that had recently arisen.
