Kyrgyzstan journalist Erkin Yakubzhanov was released

On 29 July Uzbek frontier guards released Kyrgyzstan journalist Erkin Yakubzhanov. The journalist was detained by Uzbek frontier guards on July 18 at the Dustlik checkpoint, while working on a story about Andijan refugees. The guards gave formal reason for his arrest, saying he had no official accreditation for covering the events and permit to cross Uzbekistan border.

Bektur Adanov, an Internal Affairs Ministry’s authorized person in Osh Region, Yakubzhanov was held in Andizhan National Security Department. Mambetaliyev, head of Journalists Association, earlier mentioned that Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Internal Affairs had requested Uzbek authorities to release the journalist.
