Hot News 2005 August 15 Aliima Sharipova, a reporter for Itogi nedeli newspaper receives threats
Alena Sharipova, chief editor for Itogi nedeli newspaper, informed two unknown individuals (middle-aged man and woman) entered the editorial office, demanding to give them address of staff reporter Aliima Sharipova, on 12 August, 2005. She said that they came to the office four times, asking for her telephone number, because of the article published in the paper, that listed a number of state officials who were awarded elite pieces of land out of order, in Osh. Sharipova believes they try to threaten her in retaliation for the articles, she is currently working on, that reveal state officials abusing power. “I view it as a direct threat, connected with my work, I have enough sources to confirm that my articles are based on facts,” she said. The journalist is scared for her life; and the editorial board took strong security measure to ensure its staff are safe. |
