Hot News 2005 August 25 Court filed paper’s editor and a journalist
On 23 August, Batken District Court judge, Ulan Sultanaliyev, found Akhmatov, chief editor for Batken Tany newspaper, guilty of undermining reputation of Ilimidin Adbdrasulov, Batken State University rector. The curt obliged the paper to publish retraction of paper’s 15 April article by Tagayev. Furthermore the court ordered the Akhmatov and Tagayev to pay 5000 soms ($125) and 7000 soms ($175) in damages, respectively. The lawsuit was based on the article by Tagayev, ex-rector of the University, published in the paper. The plaintiff views the article as undermining not only his reputation, but also reputation of his colleagues.
