Hot News 2005 September 28 Journalists are calling for value added tax to be abolished
Nurlan Zholdosh, head of the Congress of Business Associations, expressed concerns over 20% value added tax on media outlets, at a press conference in Osh, saying high taxes stop the independent media from proper development. “The companies, producing consumer goods and media outlets have to pay the same VAT, though some CIS countries had abolished the practice of imposing the VAT on media outlets,” said Zholdoshev. Zholdoshev said Osh media workers had requested the Congress of Business Associations to lobby their interest in Parliament.
