The Kyrgyzstan’s portion of the project is done by the Public Association “Journalists”. The organization was founded on the initiative of journalists in November of 1998 in Bishkek and now has more than 160 full members. Its chairman is Kuban Mambetaliev.

Eight assigned journalists work full time and contribute reports to the Monitoring from the capital and seven centers of the Osh, Lalalabad, Batken, Natyn, Talas, Karakol, Tokmok provinces. They are assisted by many volunteers. All the work under the project is coordinated by Kuban Mambetaliev. Lawyer Bekibai Mamytov furnishes the Monitoring with legal opinion, pertaining to the facts of violations of freedom of speech in the country.
