Farruh Ahrorov, a reporter with Leninabadskaya Pravda newspaper was fired for refusal to get involved in harvesting cotton

On October 4, H. Sayfullayev, a chief editor of Leninabadskaya Pravda newspaper, fired reporter Farruh Ahrorov, because the latter refused to get involved in cotton harvesting. The reporter was offered to leave the job voluntarily. The application for leave says: “I ask you to fire me of my own accord, because I cannot work as an agricultural worker”.

Local authorities initiated a rule obliging journalists for local media outlets to take part in harvesting cotton. However, the news-analytic center of Sogdiy regional hukumat informed involvement in cotton harvesting process depends on people’s wishes, and any form of coercion is illegal.
