Hot News 2004 October 9 Vecherka lost a case
On October 8, regional court judge Kosymov in Khalton held final hearings in the suit against Vecherniy Dushanbe daily. The lawsuit was filed by Amirov, a deputy chairman of Dushanbe city court. The claims stemmed from damaged honor and dignity. The court partially satisfied the suit and obliged the newspaper editorial board and lawyer Juraev, an author of article “There is power over Judges” to pay 5,000 somoni (about USD 2,000) and the editorial board separately to reimburse court costs equal to 25 somoni. Let’s remind the cause of the lawsuit was an article, written by a lawyer Juraev “There is power over Judges” published in Vecherniy Dushanbe newspaper (#10, 05.03.2004). The article was based on findings of the criminal investigation, conducted by Ashurov and further examined by judge Amirov. Juraev accused the judge of many violations of the Criminal Procedural Code and falsification of the court documents. Newspaper chief editor Sidikov stated he disagrees with the court decision and plans to appeal it to the Supreme Court.
