The Prosecutor General of Tajikistan accused journalists of aggravating the situation in the country

 

On December 11 2004, Bobodjon Bobohonov, the Prosecutor General of Tajikistan, in his press conference, explained why M. Iskandarov, chairman of Tajik Democratic Party, was detained in Moscow at the request of Tajik law enforcement agencies. The Prosecutor said that Iskandarov used opposition newspapers, which are published abroad, like Ruzi Nav, to besmirched Tajik people. He also noted that international organizations are likely to provide financial support to publish such opposition newspapers abroad. “Some international organizations allocate money to bring us back to [the civil war of] 1992, which will never happen again - Tajik people have understood this”.
