Iskandar Firuz, a BBC reporter, was attacked

 

On January 29, Iskandar Firuz, a reporter with BBC Persian Service, was attacked by Fozil Obidov, a deputy head of National Democratic Party of Tajikistan (NDPTR) in Shohmansur district of Dushanbe.

According to Firuz, in the morning of 29 January, he went to the polling station #3 in order to cover candidates, running for the Parliament, meeting with voters. At the time of the incident, he was standing outside the building, holding a microphone. Suddenly Fozil Obidov attacked him, asking “why are you recording me?” He grabbed a microphone and recording device and threw them to the ground, using threats and obscene words. Dozens of party members, journalists and voters witnessed the incident.  

Iskandar Firuz sent a complaint to the Party Leadership, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Central Electoral Commission and UK Embassy in Tajikistan.
