An unsuccessful attempt to print a daily in Tajikistan

Management of ViD, the first independent daily in Tajikistan, is having difficulties distributing the medium. The editorial board informed the readers in the latest edition that the next edition will come out on 1 April. However the paper failed to reach the readers that day. Akbarali Sattorov, the paper’s chief editor, told a correspondent for the monitoring network, that the reasons for suspension of the paper’s publication are related to paper’s distribution difficulties.

Since 1992, there were no dailies in Tajikistan up to that moment. Besides, the Department “Pochtai Tojikiston” and Tojikmatbuot, dealing with distribution of newspapers, don’t meet requirements set by private newspapers. There is no alternative organization dealing with distributing newspapers so far. 

According to the publishers, private papers’ distributors are the only reliable way to distribute newspapers, but they gain no profit from distributing a single newspaper every day.  

Sattorov also said the paper will come out as soon as they work out their own plan for its distribution.
