Journalist Djumaboi Tolibov faces trial in Soghdy region

Law expert Farruhsho Djunaidov, informed that on July 11, Shahriston district court held hearings in the case against Djumaboi Tolibov, a member of the International Confederation of Journalists and head of the Hukumat’s Legal Department in Aininsk district, Soghdy region.

The court case was presided over by Djurabek Sanginov, judge of the Soghdy Regional Court.

Dj. Tolibov was arrested on 24 April 2005, by Firdousi District Interior Department’s officers and taken to Aininsk district. The journalist is facing charges of illegal entering the property of another person (article 147, part 2, items a, b and c of the Criminal Code of the RT), hooliganism (article 237, part 2, item d of the Criminal Code of the RT) and power abuse (article 316, part 3, item a). However the journalist believes that the actions of Sabit Azamov, Aininsk district prosecutor, are in retaliation for his critical articles published in the republican press.

The first court hearings resulted in the journalist and case witnesses having been questioned, Radio Ozodi reporter Masumi Mamaradjab reported.
