Hot News 2005 July 18 Authorities continue persecuting Nerui Sukhan newspaper
On 14 July 2005, State Revenues Ministry’s Tax police officers, Hurshed Gulomov and Farhod Asrorov, visited Kaihon private print firm that was printing Nerui Sukhan newspaper. They sealed off the building and prohibited staff from taking paper’s copies out. Gulomov, head of the Tax police, refused to answer to the question of the Monitoring reporter what the reasons were for sealing off the printing firm. On 26 January 2005, the Tax police seized circulation of Nerui Sukhan newspaper and sealed off Kaihon printing firm [that is owned by the Journalists’ Memory Foundation of Tajikistan]. The paper resumed publishing on 7 July 2005. However 9 days later, Tax police officers visited the printing firm once again. They made a report, stating that they had seized circulation and sealed off the building of the printing firm. “The Tax police is likely to file new claims,” Mukhtor Bokizoda, chief editor for the paper, said.
