Hot News 2005 July 12 Dushanbe city mayor called on media outlets to understand
On 11 August, Kurjer Tajikistana weekly published a report “Conscience should be above everything” by Zafar Abdullayev. He reported on a meeting between Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, chairman of Dushanbe, and city activists and heads of local media outlets. The mayor called on them to reach mutual understanding. Ubaidulloyev also called on journalists to adhere to laws of the country, and in particular, the law “On print and other mass media,” to refrain from publishing unchecked information. “We know that journalists have greater imagination than others,” he said. “However we should ourselves to facts and the main basis should be the law, and conscience and beliefs.”
