Roundtable participants discussed creation of the accrediting body

Information-analytic department of the Executive Apparatus of the President of the RT and the National Association of Independent Mass Media of Tajikistan, supported by the International Research and Exchange Board, held a roundtable “Accreditation of Journalists as a Mechanism of Access to Information”, on August 19, 2005.

 Karomatullo Mirzoyev, head of the Executive Apparatus’ Information-Analytic Department stressed on the NANSMIT, which had done an important job, initiating creation of a body accrediting journalists under state and public organizations. He also said: “the Accrediting Body for Journalists will give more opportunities for tighter cooperation between the authorities and media outlets.”     

I. Sattarov, head of the of Foreign Ministry’s Information Department, gave detailed information to seminar participants about the principles of accrediting journalists under the Foreign Policy Department of the country.

He also expressed his views on the draft provision on accrediting journalists with accrediting bodies, which had been developed for experts’ discussion. According to him, such accrediting bodies will help organizations distribute information on time.

Roundtable participants came to conclusion, after a long discussion, that organizers should work more on the document and then provide it to all organizations as a sample provision.
