Journalists working for state-run media outlets were prohibited from covering any political party

On 1 October, 2005 Democratic Party of Tajikistan, which operates at the level of Gorno-Badahshan region, decided to hold a news conference for local journalists in Horog to announce results of the IV party’s meeting. The State-run TV Channels, Radio channels and newspapers failed to attend the news conference, though were invited in advance.

Party officials believe the media workers failed to attend the news conference, as they had received an order from Mayor of the Region, Alimamad Hiyozmamadov. Unofficial sources said the mayor prohibited local state-run media outlets from reporting on activities of any political parties, except for the National-Democratic Party.
