Hot News 2005 October 12 TV programme host faces charges of being a member of Hizb-ut-Tahrir party
On 11 October, at the news conference organized by Hukumat’s Information Center Abdugaffor Kalandarov, Sughd Prosecutor, said that Saidmash’hud Ikromov, host of the programme “Meroch” is to face charges of being involved in Hizb-ut-Tahrir party, known for promoting extremist religious views. The programme is broadcast by Azia TV company in Hudjant. According to Kalandarov, the authorities initiated legal proceedings against the journalists under article 307 of the Criminal Code of the RT (calling for extremist activities publicly). The Prosecutor has mentioned the police found some books and videotapes, demonstrating their members calling to disobey the regime during the search. He also said that Ikromov was taken to the prison cell. Ikromov had been hosting the religious programme “Meroch”, teaching Islam, over the last few years.
