Hot News 2005 October 18 The Ministry of Justice denies registration to the U.S.-based NGOs
On 18 October, Isroil Shoyev, head of the body registering legal entities under the Ministry of Justice, said at the press conference, Freedom House and National Democratic Institute were denied registration by the Tajik authorities. Worth mentioning is that the two U.S.-based organizations are involved in protecting freedom of expression and development of democracy. Shoyev said the authorities found legal irregularities in documents submitted by the organizations, so they proposed the organizations’ officials to correct them and try again. The Justice Ministry official denied any political motives. At the time the Freedom House and NDI officials said the body denies registration since 2005 under different pretexts.
