Hot News 2005 October 27 The Criminal Court upheld the lower court order against Mukhtor Bokizoda On 27 October, 2005, Criminal Court in Dushanbe, presided over by judge Alpomish Akbarova, upheld the lower court order issued on 25 August, sentencing Mukhtor Bokizoda, chief editor of Nerui Sukhan newspaper to 2 years of corrective labor, under article 244 of the Criminal Code. Furthermore the Firdavsi court obliged the editor to pay 20% forfeit. The editor was convicted on charges of stealing electricity, causing damage to the state budget. The estimated damage is 1678 somoni 98 dirams (over US $500). Mukhtor Bokizoda and his attorney Inoyat Inoyatov said they plan to appeal the order to the Court’s Plenum in Dushanbe.
