Hot News 2005 October 31 Independent journalist is facing insult charges
On 31st October, 2005, independent journalist Abdufattoh Vohidov faced insult charges under article 136, item a, of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan, after being summoned for questioning by the State Prosecutor in Sino District. The charges followed a lawsuit filed by head of the Foundation "Oli Somon" Mahmadali Nuraliyev. The lawsuit is based on an article "Chairman of the Foundation lies," by Vofidov, published in "Tojikiston" newspaper on 31 October, 2004. The plaintiff believes the article is aimed at 'insulting his personality. The court hearings were not scheduled yet.
